Larry Millete stands accused of murdering his wife Maya, a beloved mother of three who has not been seen since 7 January 2021. Maya disappeared from the family's Chula Vista home shortly after she told Larry she wanted a divorce.
Prosecutors allege that Millete, unable to accept the end of his marriage, enlisted family members and self-described 'spell casters' in an attempt to persuade Maya to stay — and that when those efforts failed, he killed her. Maya's body has never been found. Millete also faces a charge of unlawful possession of an assault weapon.
Custody of the couple's three children was awarded to Maya's sister. Millete has remained in custody since his arrest in October 2021. The trial, repeatedly delayed, is now set for May 2026.
