People v. Rex Heuermann

← Back to all trials

Case Background

Rex Heuermann, a Long Island architect, pleaded guilty on 8 April 2026 to killing eight women over more than three decades β€” the Gilgo Beach murders that had baffled investigators since the victims' remains were discovered near Gilgo Beach on Long Island's South Shore in 2010–11.

The victims, several of whom had advertised services online, were strangled. Heuermann was first arrested in July 2023 after DNA evidence and cell-phone records linked him to the crimes. His guilty plea came ahead of a trial that had been expected to call more than 100 witnesses. At the time of his arrest, Heuermann was a married father of two living a seemingly ordinary suburban life.

Sentencing is scheduled for 17 June 2026, where he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
